Golden Arches as much a symbol of a nation as Boxing Kangaroo, say the Americans.

February 6 2010

VANCOUVER – In response to the Australian refusal to remove the image of the Boxing Kangaroo, American athletes have displayed their own traditional symbol – none other than the mighty, dripping Golden Arches.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has yet to comment on this eventuality, after its ruling on the Australian symbol was ignored.

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) backs the athlete’s decision to leave the flag flying, despite IOC concerns that it is a registered trademark and thus too commercial to be displayed in conjunction with the Vancouver Olympics.

The US Olympic Committee, encouraged by the Aussies’ success, today unfurled their own banner in a typical show of patriotism.

A spokesperson for the committee denies claims that the McDonald’s symbol is too commercial, despite it being a registered trademark.

“It’s what we as Americans rally towards,” he said. “The American athletes need something to remind them of their roots and to encourage a level of patriotic competitiveness.”

The Americans say that no one should worry, as the flag is not some kind of advertising plan to promote McDonalds or McDonalds related merchandise.

The McDonald’s trade mark, like the Boxing ‘Roo, is often the symbol to promote kids health issues, with emphasis on the ‘issues’. McDonalds also sponsored the “A Cheeseburger A Day” campaign back in ’06.

“You’ve got to look at this from the American athlete’s point of view,” the spokesperson continued. “They’re in a foreign country where the folks speak a foreign language and surrounded by all sorts of unhealthy ideas like “exercise”. It’s no wonder they feel more at home with the Golden Arches flapping in the breeze outside their apartment.”

“And besides,” the spokesperson said. “Who on earth takes Canadians seriously anyway?”

Fun Easter Facts!

  • The date of Easter changes each year and is determined by the lunar cycle! ... Sounds a little heathenistic to me!

  • Christians, prostitutes celebrate Easter by spending hours on their knees.

  • The pagan goddess "Eastre" was particularly enamoured with rabbits. Hence easter, hence rabbits... it is all coming together.

  • Little chocolate Jesus' were the forehoppers to chocolate rabbits.
